Heart’s Delight Annual Wine Series Returns To DC, Raises $1.2M For The American Heart Association

This past April, Heart’s Delight held another successful week of events to raise money for The American Heart Association. Heart’s Delight a four day series that introduces DC to a grand selection of fabulous wines from the best Vintners, all to support the fight against heart disease.

The series kicked off on Wednesday, April 22nd with the United States of Wine Reception which took place on the Observatory rooftop above Charlie Palmer, which offered sensational views of The Capitol at sunset. 17 wineries participated, and the event offered a fabulous spread of cheeses, meats, and fruits for guests to pair with their tastings. The evening capped off with a fun live auction of the evenings premiere wines, which raised thousands toward their cause.

The evening of Thursday, April 23rd was the private dinner series, and I was invited to The UPS Townhouse for an exclusive dinner party where celebrated chef Max Mackinnon prepared 5 decadent courses. Each course was paired with wines by French Vintners Chateau Lafon-Rochet and Chateau Guiraud.

Unfortunately, I was not able to make it to the Heart’s Delight black tie gala held on Friday, April 25th, which featured the wines of Chateau Cheval Blanc and Chateau d”Yquem. However, it was beautiful by all accounts, and people were buzzing about the $100,000 bid by an anonymous guest from China, who flew in specifically for the purpose of winning the special item being auctioned, a private lunch with Heart’s Delight founder Robert Parker for 11 people and 24 bottles of fabulous wine from his cellar.

The week ended with the final event on Saturday, April 25th, the Heart’s Delight Grand Tasting & Auction, a fun, well-attended celebration with a circus theme, where party guests had another chance to bid on live auction packages that included experiences and luxury vacations in addition to wines. The week of events was a huge success with local DC friends, philanthropists, and supporters coming out to eat drink, and be merry. The overall culmination of this year’s Heart’s Delight raised over $1.2M for The American Heart Association’s life-saving mission and dedication to heart health.
