Four Wounded Warriors, Luke’s Wings Rewrites ‘The Principles of Flight’.

“Love Travels, The Miles, Upon The Wings of Angels.”

It was January of 2008 when Fletcher Gill (Founder) first heard his mission’s call of duty; to help wounded warriors. In that moment, Luke’s Wings broke ground. The first cornerstone was set by a founding principle: To ‘Keep Them Flying’.

The organization is committed to supporting our troops who have been injured in combat. Unfortunately, there are times that families lack the resources to travel to faraway hospitals to be with them. By providing families with airline tickets and accommodations, Luke’s Wings ‘Keeps Them Flying‘ for their hero.

Their mission brings the soul-healing gift of loved ones to the bedside of a veteran or wounded warrior in their hour of need; who otherwise couldn’t have been there due to lack of financial resources. Luke’s Wings understands the emotional need for families to be together during hospitalization and recovery Since 2009, Executive Director of Family Communications Jennifer Magerer has answered their call. She believes it should be every civilian’s duty to assist in the healing process of every injured soldier who has risked their own well-being for the safety of another. She and the team works tirelessly to unite families with their wounded warrior, while removing the strains of financial hardship in an already difficult time.

In 2011, Luke’s Wings mission grew to include all Veterans in Hospice Care. As a result, Veterans in Hospice Care can now have their loved ones with them at their side in their final moments. Today, the majority of requests are for World War II Veterans, Korean War Veterans, and Vietnam War Veterans in elderly care facilities or long term inpatient care facilities. Luke’s Wings regards the Veterans in Hospice Care Program as a “final salute” to the greatest generation that ever lived.

In 2012, Luke’s Wings was asked to provide emergency flights for the families of our special operators who are injured on special missions. They are honored to be the “go-to” for the Special Operations Command (S.O.C.OM.) and to be of service to these brave men and women.

I am so thrilled to have watched their growth. Their dedication continues to expand their reach, and as result more and more families now have a place to turn when feeling helpless in the wake of devastating news. Under the leadership of Executive Director of Business Development Lindsay Gill, Luke’s Wings has raised more than $2,000,000.00 and has answered the call of more than 1200 wounded warrior families, Texas Veteran families, and Veterans in Hospice Care as of 2013 alone.
