On Friday, November 7th I joined Fair Chance for its annual Butterfly Bash hosted at the stunning Andrew W. Mellon Auditorium. The evening honored Carrie and David Marriott for their dedication to children’s causes. With former Washington Redskin Chris Cooley as our host, guests mingled & danced away to a whimsical night of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, enchantment, and of course butterflies.
It was a well attended event for an invaluable DC organization. Over 700 friends & philanthropists were there to support Fair Chance and celebrate the contributions of the Marriott’s. All proceeds raised by the event directly fund Fair Chance’s mission of providing support to area non-profits that serve children living in poverty in Washington, D.C. I delight in sharing that the 4 hour event raised over $450,000 that night. 100% will go directly toward helping poverty-stricken children in our city. That level of giving is incredible and inspiring. It speaks to the kindness of spirit that exists in our own neighbors, and reveals that the DC community is woven together by an undercurrent of compassion. People are good.
Nearly one out of every three children in our Nation’s Capital live in poverty, and they will face a great many social, economic, and academic challenges in their lives as a result. Fair Chance reaches deeply into our most underserved communities to improve the lives of these children. Having the adequate resources, tools, & guidance are necessary when building a life’s foundation. The organization works to ensure that every child has a ‘fair chance’ at a future by putting these crucial elements in reach. Positive change is achieved by a child when these factors are laid in the groundwork. Fair Chance DC fosters this growth and progress, and creates the circumstances that are vital for hope to happen.
